The Indian Queen is the last of Henry Purcell's semi-operas. His brother Daniel later added a masque celebrating Hymen to end the work in a merry way. Here we hear What flatt'ring noise is this (14), sung by the Envy and his two snaking assistants, the conjurer Ismeron bass air By the croaking of the toad (20), the singing of the jolly Aerial Spirits (25, 26, 27), queen Zempoalla's song I attempt from Love's sickness to fly in vain (27), the plaint of captive princess Orazia They tell us that your mighty powers (29), string wind symphonies, trumpet tunes and more.
